International Graduates Pre-departure Workshop

Pre departure workshop

We always look forward to welcoming new sets of Nottingham alumni!

For the third consecutive year, we held our International Graduates Pre-departure Workshop on 6 April 2017 at the Malaysia Campus. The aim of the workshop is to gather final year international students and brief them on measures the university can help them after their graduation.

Organized by the Alumni and Donor Relations Office (ADRO) with strong support by the Careers Advisory Office, the event was a success in sharing the benefits of being Nottingham alumni and what support the University offers especially in building their career after graduation. Alumni were advised on how to maintain the relationship with the University and seek for possible opportunities to work and support each other in the long term.

Wing Chui explained some of her department’s support for alumni, such as the prominent International Student Career series which aims to help students build employability skills and review expectations from institutions in terms of hiring graduates. There are also workshops organized through the academic year, which cover a range of topics directed at raising the employability value of international students. These include networking skills, how to search for jobs, cultural and networking barriers, as well as personality tests.

The participants were interested to know that the team keeps an eye out for the companies that provide placements for international students, and helps companies collect student resumes or refers student resumes to the interested firms. Interestingly, there have been 500 processed applications and 40% out of these are already shortlisted for the entitled job.

Ms. Salinee Ganeson, the Events and Alumni Officer at ADRO made the event more interesting with a presentation on the benefits  of registering as Nottingham Alumni.

Since a large percentage of UNMC’s population is from all over the world, Salinee emphasized that it is very important that int

ernational working relationships are maintained long after the international students graduate. As such, no matter where a Nottingham alumnus is in the world, ADRO will make it a point to track their success.

Attendees also heard about ADRO’s other services, such as the Masterclass series, alumni gatherings, scholarships, usage of university’s facilities, alumni sharing sessions, career support, recognition awards, and e-mentoring.

All our alumni are urged to register officially online to take advantage of these benefits. Take a look at our website to get more up-to-date information.
