The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) alumnus Adam Shamil graduated with a BA (Hons) in International Communication Studies with Film and Television Studies back in 2018. He now works full-time as a video content creator and runs Adam Shamil Studios, a company which specialises in producing professional videos for social media or films.
Adam started creating video content while in UNM and decided to continue on this career path even after graduation.
“People have always mistaken me as an Indonesian. So, in order to educate them, I made a video called Get It Right, where I talked about the differences in the way Sabahans and Indonesians speak and posted it on YouTube. And that’s how my career as a content creator took off,” he explains.
For Adam, the most rewarding part of his career is putting a smile on people’s faces and inspiring young individuals to be the best versions of themselves.
“In addition, I love this job as it has allowed me the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world and meet people from different walks of life.”
Recently, Adam was recognised as one of the most Successful People in Malaysia amongst other notable Malaysian figures by the British Publishing House for his work.
Like with all jobs Adam says he does struggle from time to time in pursuit of new and original ideas for his videos while maintaining relevance.
UNM was Adam’s first choice to pursue his tertiary education as he wanted to experience the best of British education in Malaysia.
Now an alumnus of the university, Adam says that being equipped with a British degree from one of the UK’s top 10 research universities has opened many doors for him in his career and he has no regrets.
