Feeding for future

Asgar Ali: Edible coatings keep fruits and vegetables fresh

Part of EarthSky special series: ‘Feeding the Future’

As a broadcast network established since 1991, EarthSky has become a pivotal tool in advocating science and sharing ideas and strategies. Recently a special series of interviews has been developed by EarthSky titled ‘Feeding the Future’, focusing on the latest in science and technologies for ensuring safe and sustainable supply of food. Dr Asgar Ali was featured in one of the four interviews within this series. Research conducted by Dr Asgar Ali and his team on edible coatings from natural materials such as gum Arabic can prolong the shelf life of perishable fruits and vegetables while maintaining the quality and safety of the food items.
