Dr Hsin-Vonn Seow, Acting Dean of Nottingham University Business School Malaysia (NUBS) and Associate Professor of Operations Research, received the prize for the Best Paper (in the category of Theory and Methodology) of the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR) for 2017.

The winning paper, 'Benchmarking state-of-the-art classification algorithms for credit scoring: An update of research' was co-authored with Professor Stefan Lessmann from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Dr Bart Baesens from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and the late Professor Emeritus Lyn Thomas formerly of the University of Southampton.

“I am privileged to have had the opportunity to work with Stefan, Bart and Lyn, and very honoured that our article was selected for the EURO 2017 Best Paper (Theory and Methodology) Award," Dr Seow, who is also Director of Teaching at NUBS Malaysia, said.

The award was presented at the closing session at the 21st Conference of the International Federation of Operations Research Societies (IFORS) held in Quebec City, Canada from 17-21 July 2017.

The prize is awarded by The Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO) and is selected by an international jury which evaluates papers published in EJOR. The best paper for each category is selected based on criteria including the scientific quality and originality of the paper, and the relevance of the paper to the area of Operational Research. The jury for this year's EURO Award for the Best EJOR Paper is chaired by Professor Sebastian Lozano from Spain.

According to The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Professor Chew Ging Lee: "We are very proud of the calibre of our academics in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the quality of the research that they do.

"This achievement by Dr Seow underscores the significance we place on building international research networks and leveraging on outstanding research to inform the teaching and learning experience at Nottingham."
