Speaking engagements 

Dr Avvari Mohan, Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Deputy Dean (Business Engagement and External Relations), was invited to speak at various forums: 
  • Regional Open Innovation Forum for promoting Nanotechnology and Agriculture for Sustainable Development – organised by Asia Pacific Centre for Technology Transfer (APCTT- a UN-ESCAP orgn) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia. His presentation entitled Managing Open Innovation in Academic/Research Organisations was given at the forum in Kuala Lumpur on 27-28 October 2014.
  • Universities and Development of Science City/Science Parks Forum organised by the UNESCO-WTA Training Workshop. WTA stands for World Technopolis Association which is an International NGO of UNESCO that is involved in carrying out capacity building activities for managers and future managers of science and technology parks. His presentation entitled Growth of Start-up Firms – Insights based on Cases from Malaysian Technology Parks was given at the forum in Daejeon, South Korea on 11 November 2014. 
  • First Deajeon Global Innovation Forum organised by UNESCO, WTA and Daejeon Metropolitan City in Republic of Korea along with the INNOBIZ Foundation of Korea. His presentation entitled Finance Support Systems for Knowledge Based SMEs in Malaysia was given at the forum in Daejeon, South Korea on 12 November 2014. 

Dr Avvari Mohan was also invited to be a  panel member at the International Conference on Science and Technology for Regional Development in the age of the Creative Economy.  This event was organised by the Management and Economic Research Institute (MERI) of Chungnam National University and Bank of Korea and was held at the campus of Chungnam National University, Daejeon, South Korea on 14 November 2014. 

Dr Eunice Lim, Senior University Teaching Fellow of International Business, presented her research paper on Internationalisation of  Latecomer Emerging Economies MNCs: Application of Integrated Theoretical Framework at the Academy of International Business Southeast Asia Regional Conference. The conference was held in Macau from 7-9 December 2014 and was attended by academics from around the world. 

Dr Jayalakshmy Ramachandran, Assistant Professor of Accounting, was invited by the Building Management Association of Malaysia (BMAM) to present at a press conference on The overview of GST and its impact on Strata Property Owners. The event was held on 2 December 2014 at The Club, Bandar Utama, Kuala Lumpur. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session and interview with press reporters. The press conference was attended by prominent builders in the Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley areas and strata property owners who are likely to be affected by the GST implementation. 

Dr Lau Chee Kwong, Associate Professor of Accounting, was invited as a panel member for a forum entitled Progressing Accounting Education in Malaysia: What does it take to produce world-class work-ready professional accountants?. The forum was held in conjunction with ACCA Learning Conference 2014: Accounting Educators: Roles and Contributions towards a Developed Nation and was held in Petaling Jaya on 30 October 2014. 
    
Dr Lau Chee Kwong also presented his research paper on The Use of Segment Information for Stock Valuation in China: an Analyst Perspective at the 2014 Asia Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics Symposium in Hong Kong from 3-5 December 2014. 

Dr Rasyad Parinduri, Assistant Professor of Business Economics, was invited by the Australian National University’s (ANU) Indonesia Project to speak at the BIES Economic Dialog and Economic Forums on 1-4 December 2014. The forum took place in three Indonesian universities — Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, and Universitas Sam Ratulangi in Manado. This annual event is organised by ANU to promote the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies (BIES), an ANU’s publication, to Indonesian researchers and policymakers.  Dr Parinduri spoke on his paper Family Hardship and the Growth of Micro and Small Firms in Indonesia which was published in BIES. 

Dr Syed Aun R. Rizvi, Assistant Professor of Islamic Finance was invited as a panel speaker at Conceptualising the Ummah organised jointly by Durham University and The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). The talk was held at the Royal Commonwealth Soceity Club, Malaysia on 10-11 December 2014 and was attended by speakers from many international universities.  

Guest speaker series 

Dr Tsahuridu Evdokia, Manager Accounting Policy, CPA Australia spoke to third year Accounting students on Ethics for Professional Accountants. The event was held on 5 November 2014 at UNMC. 

Mr Liew Kim Yuen, Director for Corporate Finance/Corporate Recovery and Restructuring at Ferrier Hodgson MH and the former General Manager and Head of the Financial and Corporate Surveillance at the Securities Commission Malaysia, spoke to third year accounting students on earnings management, creative accounting and corporate scandals. The event was held on 11 November 2014 at UNMC.
