The School of English & The Centre for Southeast Asian Writing (CSAW) present The Writers' Lounge: A monthly event featuring writers reading from their work. This month we welcome Malaysian author Chuah Guat Eng who will read from her latest collection of short stories Dream Stuff (2014). Dream Stuff is Guat Eng’s third collection of short fiction. The first two collections are The Old House and Other Stories (2008) and Tales from the Baram River (2001).She has published two novels, Echoes of Silence (1994, 2009) and Days of Change (2010), both set in the fictitious district of Ulu Banir. About the author: Chuah Guat Eng was born in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia in 1943. She received her early education at Methodist Girls School, Klang and Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur. She read English Literature at University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur and German Literature at Ludwig-Maximilian University, Munich. Most of her working life has been spent in the corporate world. In 2008, she received her PhD from the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Bangi for her thesis, From Conflict to Insight: A Zen-based Reading Procedure for the Analysis of Fiction.
