The QS World University Rankings 2026, a globally respected benchmark of higher education excellence, has recognised the University of Nottingham as one of the top universities worldwide. Climbing 11 spots from last year, Nottingham now ranks 97th globally and 17th in the UK. This achievement is a testament to its continued commitment to world-class education, research, and global engagement.

What Is the QS World University Rankings 2026? 

The QS World University Rankings evaluates global universities annually across a range of performance indicators. Institutions are assessed on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, research output, international diversity, and sustainability. The rankings serve as a vital guide for prospective students, faculty, and employers seeking to identify top-performing universities globally.

How Are QS World University Rankings Determined? 

QS uses weighted criteria to determine its rankings: 

  • Academic Reputation (30%) 
  • Citations per Faculty (20%) 
  • Employer Reputation (15%) 
  • Faculty/Student Ratio (10%) 
  • International Faculty and Students (5% each) 
  • International Research Network (5%) 
  • Employment Outcomes (5%) 
  • Sustainability (5%) 

The University of Nottingham’s overall score has risen to 69.4, up from 58.5 in 2025 - a remarkable +10.9 point increase. 

1. Excellence in Research and Discovery 

Academic Reputation 

Nottingham’s Academic Reputation soared from 61.1 to 75.4 (+14.3) - a reflection of our robust research output, global collaborations, and thought leadership. In Malaysia, our reputation for cutting-edge research continues to grow as well. This is supported by a globally diverse faculty from 33 countries, 85% of whom hold PhDs. 

Citations per Faculty 

Though the ranking dipped slightly, the Citations per Faculty score improved, highlighting the rising impact and visibility of research conducted by Nottingham academics worldwide.

2. Top Employability and Outcomes for Graduates 

Employer Reputation 

Our Employer Reputation score rose significantly from 65.8 to 78.4 (+12.6). This indicates growing confidence among global employers in the quality and readiness of Nottingham graduates. At UNM, our graduate outcomes are equally impressive with close to 100% of our graduates securing employment or pursuing further studies shortly after graduation. UNM graduates have gone on to become changemakers in their respective fields and are consistently sought after by the world’s top 100 global brands. 

Employment Outcomes 

We also saw a notable increase in Employment Outcomes from 38 to 53.7 (+15.7). At the University of Nottingham Malaysia, our graduates go on to earn 2x more than the national average, thanks to our industry-focused programmes, global exposure, and strong alumni network.

Faculty-Student Ratio 

Our Faculty-Student Ratio score improved by 11.7 points, reflecting smaller class sizes and increased personalised academic support - all of which enhance the learning experience. Our Malaysia campus maintains an average 1:15 academic-to-student ratio, ensuring quality engagement and meaningful mentorship. Complementing this is our expansive 48-hectare campus, equipped with world-class amenities and surrounded by nature.
