Alumnus Ben Hunte receives 2019 Recent Graduate Award

Ben Hunte is a journalist and presenter from London, and a 2019 Recent Graduate Award recipient at the Alumni Laureate Award presented during the Winter Graduation at the University of Nottingham United Kingdom. In April 2019, he became the BBC’s youngest correspondent to date, and his work has already been nominated for multiple awards.

Ben graduated in 2014 from the University of Nottingham Malaysia with a full scholarship for a BSc in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. During his studies, he was the President of the UNM Students’ Association, and founder and editor-in-chief of university magazine Ignite.

He began his career at Sainsbury’s before he joined Google as a Strategic Partner Manager. But with his heart in journalism, he then pursued an MA in Journalism and secured an internship with BBC in 2017. Ben has been a freelance presenter for Channel 5 News and ITV London News. He also worked as a YouTuber with over 100,000 subscribers and followers on his channel.

In 2018, Ben launched and presented BBC What’s New, the BBC Africa‘s first TV programme and digital service for children in Africa. The programmes featured on What’s New the most engaged posts across BBC News Africa’s social media pages and have also gone viral several times.
