Shirley Ng and Shahjalal Mosharof Complete Successful Internship with EDAG

Over the summer of 2025, Ms. Shirley Ng (the first photo below) and Mr. Shahjalal Mosharof (the second photo below) were selected for an internship opportunity with EDAG, thanks to a connection facilitated by Dr. Simon Lau, Assistant Professor at the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences.

During their internship, Shirley and Shahjalal were tasked with developing Emotion Visualise (emoV) — an innovative system that leverages advanced emotion detection technology to analyse customer facial expressions in real time. The tool provides businesses with valuable insights into customer satisfaction, engagement, and overall sentiment, enhancing user experience during interactions with products, services, or environments.

Their successful creation, emoV, will be showcased at the upcoming Selangor Smart City & Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2025

For most first-year undergraduate students, such a project might seem overwhelming. However, Shirley and Shahjalal embraced the challenge with determination and passion. They dedicated themselves to acquiring the necessary knowledge and mastering a range of technologies essential for the project’s success.

Although this was their first experience working in an industry setting — and their first time building a project from the ground up — the internship proved to be a valuable learning experience. They developed a broad skill set, including project management and DevOps practices, commonly used in industrial-grade product development.

The skills gained during this internship will be directly applicable to their Year 2 Software Engineering Group Project module, a flagship component of their second-year curriculum.

On behalf of the School and the University, we extend our warmest congratulations to Shirley and Shahjalal on this remarkable achievement. It is a testament to their dedication and potential. Well done!
