Borrowing

Who can borrow from the library?

All University staff, registered students, and registered alumni members are entitled to borrow library items.

How many items can I borrow?

Please refer to "Number of loans" at Borrow and return.

How long can I borrow a library book?

Our books will normally be issued for one week and will auto renew everyday unless someone else wants them. Books in high demand will be issued for two days.

When the book you have requested is ready for collection, we'll email you.
You will need to collect it within two days.

How do I borrow library items?

For ordinary loan books, use the self-service machine on level B of the library. Follow the online instructions. Ask library staff if you need help.

You MUST have your University card (which is also your library card) with you when you borrow (or renew) items. Borrowing items using someone else’s University card is strictly forbidden.

Please note, that all borrowed items are subject to recall if another library user reserves them.

How do I find the books I need?

You need to use NUsearch, and use keywords (like author, title) to search for the book. Check for availability, and take note of the classmark.

How do I check my loans online?

Go to NUsearch and click on the Sign in link at the top of the screen. Login using your University username and password. Click on “My Library Card” to check the books you have borrowed.

How will the library contact me?

Through your University email address.  Please check your email regularly, especially if you have books on loan.

Can I borrow a periodical?

Please refer to Periodical in Borrow and return.

Can I borrow audio-visual items (CDs , DVDs) from the library?

Yes. Audio-visual (AV) materials can be borrowed. You can browse and choose the AVs from the AV cabinet display and proceed to Customer Services Counter to borrow them.

Will I be reminded when any books I've borrowed are due back?

Once the auto-renewal is stopped, Item’s due notice will be sent to the patron, allowing a maximum of six days to return the book. Please return the item(s) by the due date.
