The 4th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Asian Society for Innovation and Policy  

ASIP 

The Asian Society for Innovation and Policy (ASIP) held their fourth annual conference at the Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and at the Awana Resort in the Genting Highlands on 4-6 August 2014. The conference was hosted by NUBS Malaysia together with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and the Korea Technology Innovation Society. ASIP was also supported by the Faculty of Management, Multimedia University (Cyberjaya) and the Department of Development Studies, University of Malaya. NUBS Malaysia organising committee was headed by Dr Avvari V Mohan and the theme of the conference was Entrepreneurship, Human Resources and Innovation. 

The key note presentations were delivered by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Hafsah Hashim, CEO, SME Corp Malaysia and Professor Myeong-Cheol Park, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The conference also featured panel discussions and presentations from academics and policy makers from government, industry and academia from China, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand. 

Executive Education programme: Performance Management for Organisational Success

NUBS Malaysia Executive Education organised a two-day human resources training entitled Performance Management for Organisational Success on 13-14 August 2014. The training was designed to highlight the importance of managing employee performance and its processes. Performance management planning, development, execution, monitoring and evaluation were covered in the programme. The training was delivered by Dr Maniam Kaliannan, Associate Professor of Human Resources Management and attended by participants from Indonesia, Malaysia and Nigeria.  

Focal group discussion: Development of Tax Risk Management Framework

Dr Jayalakshmy Ramachandran from NUBS Malaysia organised a focal group discussion with  key industry delegates from various sectors. Delegates included representatives from academia, audit firms, the Inland Revenue, tax risk management and tax specialisation. They discussed the attributes required to develop a tax risk management framework which can help to increase tax compliance levels in Malaysian companies and appraised a number of risks that Malaysian firms must consider in order to avoid non-compliance penalties. The half-day event was held on 26 August 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre. Undergraduates are first runners-up at Accenture Journey Malaysia 2014  

Accenture 

Accenture, a global management consulting, technology and outsourcing company hosted Accenture Journey Malaysia 2014,  a three-day teambuilding and case study competition involving final-year students in August 2014. Final-year NUBS Malaysia students Ben Kok Pin Tan, Eileen Li Ting Pang and Guo Bin Leong, together with two participants from other institutions, formed a team to compete with students from various institutions of higher learning from Australia, Malaysia, the UK and the USA. The NUBS Malaysia team emerged first runners-up in the competition.


First year student part of first runner-up team at the Maybank Go Ahead Challenge  

Maybank 

The Maybank Go Ahead Challenge is an international business case competition with participants from various institutions of higher learning from ASEAN countries, China, UK and USA. The winning team received a cash prize of US$40,000 and employment opportunities with Maybank, a leading banking and financial services group in Southeast Asia. NUBS Malaysia first year student, William Peter Buck, was part of the team that emerged as the first runner-up in the grand finals of the competition. The team received a cash prize of US$20,000.
