NSE Malaysia’s faculty members featured in speaking engagements

Dr Daniel Schoch 

Dr Daniel Schoch presented his research paper, Generalised Mean-Risk Preferences at the 16th Conference on
the Foundations of Utility and Risk on 2 July 2014. The event, hosted by the Erasmus School of Economics, was
held in Rotterdam. 

Dr Daniel Schoch, Assistant Professor of NSE Malaysia, obtained his PhD in Philosophy of Science from the
Frankfurt University in 1994. Prior to joining NSE Malaysia, Dr Schoch taught at Chiang Mai University and
University Saarbrucken and worked at Arthur Andersen as a risk consultant. His areas of expertise are in
experimental economics, behavioral economics and microeconomic theory. His work has been published in,
among others, Journal of Mathematical Psychology.

Dr Saumik Paul  

Dr Saumik Paul has been selected as a Visiting Research Fellow 2014 at the Institute of Developing Economics,
Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) from June to September 2014. He gave two research seminars
at IDE-JETRO in July and August. He also presented his research paper, The Long Term Effects of Conservation-
led Displacement in Nepal: An Anthronomics Approach
 at the Kyoto University on July 30 and the research paper,
The Likelihood Effects of Industrialisation on Displaced Households: Evidence on West Bengal, India at the Osaka University, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Tokyo and Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) in July and September.

Dr Paul, Associate Professor and Deputy Head of School of NSE Malaysia, obtained his PhD in Economics from the Claremont University in 2008. Prior to joining NSE Malaysia, Dr Paul taught at Osaka University and worked at the World Bank as en economist. His areas of expertise are development, political economy and labour economics. His work has been published in, among others, World Development, Journal of Developing Studies and Applied Economics.

Dr Teo Wing Leong  

Dr Teo Wing Leong shared his views on subsidy rationalisation as a panel speaker in a forum entitled No Pain
No Gain – Cutting Subsidies is Necessary for Malaysia’s Future Prosperity
 on 20 March 2014. The forum was sponsored by the British High Commission, KL, and Institute of Asia Pacific Studies, University of Nottingham.
The distinguished panel includes Senator Dato’s Seri Abdul Wahid Omar (Minister in the Prime Minister’s
Department), Dr Ong Kian Ming (Member of Parliament) and Manokaran Mottain (Chief Economist of Alliance
Bank). 200 participants attended the forum. A full recording of the forum can be found here

Dr Teo, Associate Professor and Head of School of NSE Malaysia, obtained his PhD in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University in 2005. Prior to joining NSE Malaysia, Dr Teo taught at the National Taiwan University. His
areas of expertise are in macroeconomics and international finance. His work has been published in, among others, European Economic Review, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and Journal of International Money and Finance.
