On 7 May 2026, we celebrated a special night dedicated just for the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s sponsors and alumni scholars.
Organised by the Sponsorship and Alumni Relations teams, the UNM Sponsors’ Appreciation Dinner 2026 was held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur and attended by our esteemed sponsors—such as MARA, Petronas, and JPA—as well as alumni scholars across various cohorts.
The event had kicked off with a heartfelt welcome address by UNM’s Provost and CEO, Professor David FitzPatrick.
When speaking about his appreciation for our sponsors, he stated that their investment does not end with a degree—it multiplies. The students they support today become the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow. They enter industries, build enterprises, lead organisations, and contribute meaningfully to society. They uplift families, inspire communities, and, in many cases, return to uplift others.
“This is the legacy you have helped create,” he added, and we could not agree more.
We then welcomed the esteemed En. Ahmad Munir, the General Manager for Education Sponsorship, Programme Management & TVET Excellence at Petronas, for his speech. He had spoken about the ambitions of scholars and how as a sponsor, they are dedicated to realising the dreams of the students in need, because everyone deserves a chance at pursuing higher education.
Before the dinner commenced, we had presented the 25 Years of UNM video for the audience to see the growth we have experienced as a university, and the achievements we have garnered over the past quarter of a century.
Furthermore, to showcase our appreciation for the sponsors and the success of their scholars throughout the years, three alumni were invited to share their experiences as a scholar during their time at UNM.
From the left, Cheong Kae Khei was a Gamuda scholar who studied Civil Engineering at UNM and graduated in 2018. Now, she is a Business Development Manager at Crown Worldwide. In the center is Muhamad Hishamudin bin Mohmad Hasim, a MARA scholar. He has been with us at UNM from foundation straight to PhD, specialising in nutrition and is currently a Nutritionist with the Ministry of Health Malaysia. On the right is Lavinya A/P Puvanathan, a JPA scholar. She graduated with a degree in Finance, Accounting and Management at UNM back in 2024 and is currently an Associate for the Aspiring Leaders Programme at PayNet.
