The month of May has always held a special meaning for fans of the Star Wars movie franchise. On 22 May 2026, UNM Alumni Relations organised a special movie screening for the new Star Wars movie after seven years of its hiatus from the big screen—The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The special movie screening welcomed the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s alumni as well as their family and friends on a Friday night to watch the film together at Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX. With the screening being held in the Screen X Hall, it was a special and fun occasion for our alumni to relax and enjoy their time with fellow Nottingham peers.
We welcomed over 100 guests, and each guest was presented with a curated UNM x Star Wars sticker sheet and a commemorative ticket, designed specially by the Corporate Marketing team.
Alumni were also encouraged to come dressed in their best Star Wars character costumes for a chance to win the Best Dressed awards by the end of the screening.
The movie kicked off at 7:20 p.m., giving our alumni ample time to commute to the venue after a hard day of work—we were honoured to have our guests choosing to unwind with us before we welcomed the weekend.
Once the movie ended, a fun and simple trivia game was held, where almost every single guest participated to answer questions about the Mandalorian—and some trick questions about UNM, too—for a chance to win special Star Wars merchandise that the Alumni Relations team had prepared just for them.
From Uniqlo t-shirts to Typo tote bags; from lightsabers to LEGO sets—we thought of it all! The smile on the winners’ faces after receiving their prizes was worth the wait.
We hope to host more fun and engaging events for our alumni in the future. This movie screening is definitely the first of many, and we are grateful for the support that our alumni provided in making it possible.
