Editor's note
Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) Malaysia is pleased to present our second quarterly
newsletter for the calendar year 2014. This issue will feature various events from the second quarter
of 2014 as well as recent research projects, publications, speaking engagements and upcoming NUBS
Malaysia’s events.

Assistant Professor of Information Systems, Dr Kenny Wong Meng Seng, presented his research paper
A Grid and Group Cultural Theory Analysis of E-Government Uptake in Malaysia at the PSA 64th Annual
International Conference. The conference – which was held in Manchester, UK, from 14-16 April 2014 –
was attended by 25 participants.

Research projects
Intellectual Capital Information and Information Asymmetry: Decision Usefulness Comparison between
the Preparers and Users for IPO Issues by Too Shaw Warn, Dr Lau Chee Kwong and Dr Wan Fadzilah Wan Yusoff
This project aims to examine the perceived informational content of intellectual capital elements. It will gauge
the usefulness of such information in order to close the information asymmetry gap between the preparers
and users of IPO documents for firms undergoing listing in the Malaysian securities exchange. A research fund
of RM84,500 has been granted for the project.

Other events
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate a number of our academic staff on the recent
honours which they have been awarded:
- Professor Chew Ging Lee, Dean of NUBS Malaysia, has been appointed to sit on the judging panel for
the Journal Publications category of the 2013 Anugerah Akademik Negara (Malaysian National Academic Awards).
- Dr Nafis Alam, Associate Professor of Finance at NUBS Malaysia, has been appointed as an Editorial
Board Member for both the Journal of Asia Business Studies and the International Journal of Islamic
and Middle Eastern Finance and Management. Dr Nafis has also been recognised by the Financial Times
as Professor of the Month.
- Dr Avvari Mohan, Associate Professor of Strategic Management at NUBS Malaysia, has been appointed
to the board of editors for the Asia Pacific Business Review.
- Dr Carol Hooi, Associate Professor of Human Resource Management and Organisation Behaviour, has
been appointed Guest Editor for The International Journal of Management Practice for a special issue
dealing with human capital management in Asia.

- Assistant Professor in Marketing, Dr Muhammad Mohsin Butt, will be presenting his research paper Antecedents of Student Satisfaction in Higher Education: The Role of Identification at the Academy of
Marketing Annual Conference 2014 in Bournemouth, UK on 8-10 July 2014.
- Dr Chuen Khee Pek, Assistant Professor of Environmetrics, will be presenting his research paper Green
and Ethical Banking: Malaysian Corporate Demand at the Annual Green Economics Conference at the
University of Oxford, UK on 9-11 July 2014.
