Environmental degradation remains a major concern across the globe as one its main determinants- fossil fuels still dominate the energy mix in most countries. Moreover, the consequences of pollution can hardly be overemphasized. The loss of biodiversity and ecosystem, reduction in quality of both water and food, and health problems are few of the known consequences of pollution. The tourism industry is also negatively affected by environmental degradation.

Without a proper understanding of the different economic dimensions of environmental degradation, it might be very difficult to initiate policies to tame pollution. Although several research papers have been written on the subject-matter, numerous economic aspects of environmental degradation are still unexplored.

My primary research interests include energy economics, environmental economics, natural resource economics and sustainability. I use several econometrics methods (such as times series and panel data techniques) to analyse different economic aspects of the environment including persistence, convergence as well as the economic drivers of environmental degradation. I am also interested in finding out the substitutability of energy inputs. My secondary research areas include financial economics, tourism economics, Islamic economics and applied economics.
