Biography

Saizi joins the School of Economics, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus as an Assistant Professor in July 2022. Prior to this position, she worked as a Research Fellow at Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) for three years.

With the GRAS Scholarship under the High Impact Research (HIR) Program of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia, Saizi completed her PhD in Development Economics at University of Malaya. So far, she has been studying, living and working in Malaysia for nearly nine years. Before moving to Kuala Lumpur, she obtained her Master Degree in Development Studies from Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, UK.

Expertise Summary

Beyond academic research, Saizi has been leading or engaged in various consulting projects for Malaysian government agencies such as Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Women, Family & Community Development and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and for international organizations such as UNDP, OIC and ASEAN Secretariat.

She has also attended advanced economic/econometric training programs granted by the World Bank, UNU-WIDER, UNICEF, and I.S.E.O. Institute where she was lectured by three Nobel Laureates.

Teaching Summary

Saizi teaches econometrics, development economics, and experimental economics. For this autumn semester, she delivers Quantitative Economics and Microeconometric Methods.

Current Research

Saizi's research interests include development economics, labor economics, micro-econometric modelling, gender studies and digital economy related topics in the context of East Asia and Southeast Asia.

Findings of her research projects have been presented at national/international conferences in Malaysia, United States, Switzerland, Italy, China, Russia, Qatar, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, and South Africa.
