The NYRP primarily aimed to give participants a unique introduction to university life and some insights into particular research areas that the various schools and departments undertake. This is modelled after similar projects in the UK and the US which organise similar programmes to introduce young learners to the excitement of research and discovery and in the long run encourage the enrolment of outstanding students to the university. The NYRP was attended by about 100 students from SRK St. Paul, Seremban. It involved collaborations among different schools (Education, English, Bioscience, Chemical Engineering, Geography and Pharmacy) and between faculty members and students of UNMC. It was a first real-life exposure to university to many of the SRK St. Paul’s students. Through the hands-on research activities, the students gained valuable knowledge about different types of global issues such as healthcare, wildlife protection, environment and family violence. Students of SMK St Paul presented the outcome of the research activity that they conducted at the university.
