The International Summer School 2016 programme had the privilege of welcoming Malaysian rights advocate, Pang Khee Teik, the founder / director of Art for Grabs, co-founder of the LGBT+ rights festival, Seksualiti Merdeka, deliver a lecture about activism here on campus.
In a philosophical discussion about the complex intersection between media and politics, Khee Teik had the class of 12 consider political issues that surround the arts, such as escapism, illusions of choice and capitalism, popular discourse and popular media.
An engaging speaker, Khee Teik has been a wealth of knowledge to the students undertaking the 'Politics, Culture and the Media in South East Asia' module.
The International Summer School programme has also been fortunate to welcome back Niki Cheong as the module convenor. Besides lecturing on media and journalism, Niki is also a journalist and writer. You can find his column here.
