Webinar on media literacy and 'fake news' by UNM students

The Democracy Discourse Series project is hosting an online webinar on media literacy, fake news and ways to use social media as a tool of empowerment in response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

This Saturday, we have specially invited four panellists:

  • Tharma Pillai from Undi18,
  • Lee Long Hui from Malaysiakini,
  • Fildzah Zulkifli from Untuk Kita and
  • Fatin Nabila from ML Studios.

The webinar will be moderated by SMLC's Year 3 student, Amirah Qistina.

In this webinar, we will be discussing the role of youths in societal discourse and the topic of fake news and misinformation in a newsroom perspective. During this quarantine, thoughts on social media consumption will also be discussed and how participants can utilise their free time as an advantage to build a legitimate aid effort campaign online.

The Democracy Discourse Series is an 18-month long project aimed at promoting digital media literacy and political awareness among youths in Selangor. The activity is organised by Muhammad Farhan Shahmi Abdullah and Nur Ain Nabila Mohammad Mazlan, both in their first year at SMLC.
