Jointly presented by Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies, School of Media, Languages and Culture - University of Nottingham Malaysia & School of Arts and Social Sciences - Monash University. How is Malaysia helping Korean people find happiness? How is the political rise of China affecting the higher education landscape in ASEAN countries? Is the spread of mobile social media bringing Southeast Asians closer together? These are some of the questions scholars will consider at the Transnational Asia symposium, jointly organised by Nottingham and Monash universities in Kuala Lumpur. Informed by a broader transAsian cultural and media studies research agenda, focused on intra-regional flows of money, food, people and media contents and forms, the symposium will showcase current work undertaken by scholars based in KL: a growing hub of cultural and media studies research on contemporary Asia. The symposium will be a one-day public event held at Nottingham University's Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre in the heart of the city. The event will open with a keynote address by Prof. Tim Bunnell (Department of Geography, Faculty of Art and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore) followed by a series of panels featuring researchers at Monash and Nottingham universities working broadly on media and migration.
