Internship: City Internships (International locations)

City Internships - Summer Internship Programme

Description:
The Summer Internship Programme is structured around an eight week internship placement, with a company in your chosen field, which is complemented by a series of inclusive career seminars and workshops, guest speaker and networking events, social events and weekend excursions. The internship placement is designed to help you explore your chosen career path, develop industry specific skills and knowledge, and increase your professional network – simultaneously helping you to focus the direction of your career and increase your appeal to future employers. The inclusive career seminars, guest speaker and networking events are designed to bolster your on-the-job learning and to further equip you with the tools necessary to launch a thriving career in today's highly competitive graduate market. The inclusive social events and weekend excursions help to deliver a well-rounded experience, serving as a great opportunity for you to fully experience your chosen city with like-minded fellow interns from across the globe. You will benefit from an extensive support network before, during and after the programme. Upon enrolling on the programme you will be assigned an Internship Adviser who will work with you to ascertain your immediate and longer-term career aspirations and guide you through the internship selection and pre-arrival processes. During the programme, you will be assigned a formal Buddy and Mentor – a junior and senior delegate at your internship company – who will support you for the duration of your internship placement. You will also be assigned a Group Mentor – a successful local professional – who will help to steer you through the wider programme and offer support in a less formal capacity. Each element of the programme is carefully considered to ensure that you spend your summer effectively and gain experience that informs, elevates and inspires.

The Summer Internship Programme operates in the four of the world’s most dynamic, influential and cosmopolitan cities. Choose from London, New York, Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Your internship placement will take place with a company in your chosen industry. Choose from Banking & Financial Services, Legal & Professional Services, IT & Technology, Art & Design, Marketing, Advertising & PR, Property & Construction, Media, Publishing & Entertainment or Science & Engineering.

What to expect:
The overarching philosophy of the programme is to give participants the freedom to define their own experience and to progress independently, both personally and professionally, within a framework that provides comprehensive support and guidance.

Pre-Programme
Upon enrolling on to the programme you will be assigned an Internship Adviser who will work with you to ascertain your immediate and longer-term career aspirations and guide you through the internship selection and pre-arrival processes.

During Programme
A welcome induction and orientation will take place during the opening weekend of the programme, giving you the opportunity meet the rest of the programme intake, receive practical guidance regarding your internship and the wider programme from your Group Mentor and settle in before you begin your internship placement. You will attend your internship placement Monday to Friday for the duration of the programme. A Buddy and Mentor – a junior and senior delegate at your internship company – will be on hand to support you throughout your internship placement. For the wider aspects of the programme, such as the weekly career seminars and the charity fundraising challenge, you will be separated into smaller sub-groups within the program intake. Each sub-group will be assigned a Group Mentor – a successful local professional from a leading firm in your chosen industry – who will help to guide you through the wider aspects of the programme. The regular social events and weekend excursions are integral to the programme. They serve as a medium to build lasting friendships with your peers and to enhance your experience of your chosen city.

Post-Programme
You should expect to leave the programme with a greater sense of independence and confidence, having acquired lifelong friendships and memories and, crucially, having gained invaluable long-term career development. City Internships Alumni are also able to utilise the services of City Careers, which provides access to post-graduation employment opportunities with leading employers from the City Internships network and beyond.

How do I apply?
The application process comprises three key steps:

  • Apply Online
Visit www.city-internships.com/apply. Your application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee who will notify you of the outcome of your application within 10 working days. Please note that there is no application fee.

  • Enrol
If your application is successful you will be invited to enrol on the programme. Please note that at the enrolment stage you will be required to submit a deposit of £250 to secure your place on the programme. You will then be assigned an Internship Adviser to guide you through the internship selection and pre-arrival processes. Your Internship Adviser will evaluate your competencies in relation to those required in your chosen industry and then guide your technical and non-technical interview preparation accordingly. Your Internship Adviser will also help to revise your resume and perfect your interview technique in preparation for upcoming interviews.

  • Secure & Select
Your Internship Adviser will present a selection of internship opportunities in your chosen industry to you, ensuring that both your aspirations and the host company’s requirements are well matched. You will be required to complete a single-stage telephone interview to secure your internship placement. Your Internship Adviser will ensure that you are fully prepared before each interview by sharing industry, company and interviewer specific insights with you.
The interview stage is a two-way process. You will have the opportunity to learn about the type of work you will be exposed to and the skills and experience that you should expect to gain. You will have the final say on which internship offer you choose to select.
