What Are the Arts and Social Sciences?

Arts and Social Sciences encompass a wide range of disciplines that explore human behaviour, society, culture, communication, and creative expression.

Arts: In this context, “Arts” refers to creative and expressive fields such as visual arts, film, media, performance, literature, and music. Students learn to analyse, interpret and create artistic works that reflect individual experiences and cultural narratives. The Arts help us communicate ideas, understand diverse histories, and express the complexities of the human experience.

Social Sciences: The Social Sciences study human society and social relationships. Key disciplines include linguistics, economics, political science, and more. These fields examine how individuals and communities behave, interact, organise themselves, and respond to global challenges.

Together, the Arts and Social Sciences equip students with critical thinking, creativity, communication skills, and a deep understanding of people and cultures. These strengths are vital for our students to navigate and contribute to society at large.
