Biography

Expertise Summary

Dr. Badeeb is an assistant professor in Business Economics at Nottingham University Business School, The University of Nottingham, Malaysia. He received his Ph.D. in Financial Economics from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Previously, he served as the Head of the finance and economics department and senior lecturer at Curtin University Malaysia. He is an experienced researcher in the field of Energy Finance & Economics and Resources Economics. He published several articles in top-tier ranking peer-reviewed journals such as Energy Economics, Resources Policy, and Renewable Energy. He is also a reviewer for many peer-review journals such as Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Resources Policy, and Journal of Cleaner Production. Dr. Badeeb won several Research and teaching excellence Awards and his name appeared in the list of the Top 10% of economics authors in Malaysia according to IDEAS/RePEc. He is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a certified Peer Reviewer of Educational Practice (PREP).

Recent Publications

Dr. Badeeb has taught various modules of Economics and Finance such as International Finance, Financial Instruments and Markets, Econometrics and Business Economics. Currently, he teaches Business Economics, Market Structure & Competition, and Games & Strategies.

The adoption of storytelling teaching method marked his teaching style as he considers this method as one of the most powerful tools in the education process. It allows him to engage students dynamically and enthusiastically while encouraging them to develop a higher order of thinking and reflection. Dr Badeeb won several teaching excellence awards:

  • Curtin Malaysia Teaching Excellence Award, 2021 (Curtin University Malaysia).
  • Curtin's 2020 Faculty of Business and Law, Teaching Excellence Award (Curtin University, Perth, Australia)
  • Student's Choice Award for outstanding teaching performance 2019,2020 & 2021 (Curtin University Malaysia. )

Current Research

Dr. Badeeb is an applied energy and environmental economist with broad theoretical and empirical interests. Oil price/rent & Energy aspects amid economic and financial challenges along with sustainable development issues in resource-based economies are the core of his current research. Currently, he is a leader of a funded research project under the title: Green Finance and Energy Poverty: A Comparative Study of The Linkage Mechanisms between China and Malaysia-. Dr. Badeeb appeared in the list of the top 5% of economics authors in Malaysia and ASEAN by the International Economics Network's RePEc ranking 2023.

  • Project leader: Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (2019) (2019-2022). Research title: Modelling Growth Maximizing Oil Rent Threshold in Malaysian Knowledge-Based Manufacturing Sector
  • Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (2018) (Role: Co-investigator): (2018-2021). Research title: A Fundamental Study of Energy Curse Threshold in the Environmental Kuznets Curve.
  • Project leader: Curtin Malaysia Research Grant (2020-2022). Research title: The impact of Financial Inclusion on Poverty, Inequality and Economic Growth: The Role of Financial Innovation.
  • Research fellow: project "Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development in Asia:- Universiti Sains Malaysia 2015-2017
  • Participated in preparing the First Professional Economic Report on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Middle East.- United Nations Development Program (UNDP) 2012.
