On 18 July 2026, we hosted the first ever Nottingham Alumni Pickleball Rally at Pickle Depot, Sentul. 30 alumni of the University of Nottingham Malaysia attended the event, where they could play a friendly game of pickleball with each other for two hours.
Pickle Depot was founded by our alumnus, Charles Chong, who graduated in 2018 with a MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. We were honoured to collaborate with him for this event. Charles had even taken the time out of his busy schedule to take us on a brief tour of Pickle Depot, which you can watch here.
The venue has 11 tournament-grade pickleball courts, a pickleball exhibition court for the biggest serves, and 4 world-class padel courts. At our Pickleball Rally, our alumni were given five courts for them to play in for two hours, with refreshments provided by myBurgerLab.
It was a day full of alumni support as myBurgerLab was also co-founded by our Mechanical Engineering alumnus, Chin Ren Yi. We were thrilled to have him join us at the event to play a few rounds of pickleball with fellow alumni.
At the event, several of our alumni attendees admitted that they were “not pros” and did not really know how to play pickleball. However, this did not hinder them from playing or dampen their excitement.
These same alumni would get into the courts and learn anyway, taking turns playing with more experienced alumni whether they knew each other or not. It was a great opportunity for our alumni to bond, and we aim to organise more events like this in the future where we can witness our Nottingham community grow. Watch the event recap here.
