The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has developed a code of practice on criteria and standards for higher education in Malaysia. The MQA Standards must be complied by the higher education providers (HEP) and foreign branch campuses in conducting higher education programmes.

In addition to the UK higher education academic standards and quality, University of Nottingham Malaysia will adhere to the MQA Standards related to candidate selection.

What this means for the University

  • HEP’s are responsible for creating and administering policy and processes pertaining to credit transfer which MQA will evaluate during programme accreditation. For further details, see the Policy on Credit Transfer (RPL) or Prior Certified Learning (RPCL).
  • HEPs must evaluate the suitability of an applicant for a programme through appropriate assessments.
  • HEPs must establish the Malaysian CGPA equivalency based on the final average, grades or scores provided in the academic transcripts.

What this means for you

  • You must read the Checklist for applications before applying.
  • You must upload copies of your certificate and transcripts, as well as any other supporting documents. We will not be able to assess your application without them.
  • If, for any reason, the final grades or average are not available in transcripts:
    - You will be asked to provide additional information.
    - In most cases, you will be asked to contact your previous institutions to obtain the information needed.
    - Ensure that those information, especially on final average and credit hours etc., are available before applying.
    - It will usually take some time for your previous institutions to provide the relevant information. We will not accept late applications in such cases.

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in non-related fields (for postgraduate studies). Please note, most Schools or Departments, especially in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, will only consider applications from those who have prior qualifications in related fields. For applicants who do not meet this requirement, the following may be applicable to you:
    - Must have relevant working experience.
    - You will be asked to submit additional documents. See Checklist for applications document.
    - Schools to conduct rigorous assessments and if deemed necessary, applicants may also be required to attend an interview.

Additional information for International students

  • During visa the application process, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) will also request for additional documents from international students. Having an offer letter does not guarantee your visa application will be successful. You must meet all the requirements of a Student visa application.

The University will do everything we can to support applicants and we may also ask you to provide further information to help us assess your application.
