Welcome
23 March 2019, 10am - 4pm
Checkmate Cancer! is an annual event founded on the necessity to increase awareness on prevention and early screening of the most prevalent cancer types in Malaysia, focussing on communities from the surrounding areas of Semenyih, Kajang and Beranang. Whilst researchers find cure and ways to keep our loved ones alive longer, it is our timely obligation to ensure that we go for regular check-ups as cancer can invade anyone's body with incidences on the raise amongst our youth and middle-aged, but on a more positive note, the risk of many cancer types can be tremendously reduced if we know how to and most decisively, work at it. The activities for this inaugural event aim to:
- Dispel misconceptions or fear about screening processes or test. (You do not need an invasive and embarrassing colonoscopy, but come and simply deposit a stool sample to screen for colorectal cancer. Similarly, a non-humiliating blood test to screen for prostate cancer).
- Educate on lifestyle cancer risk and answer questions on early detection. Sessions will be lead by specialist on lung, cervical and breast cancer.
- Train the community on self-examination for breast and testicular abnormalities. Harmless, non-invasive ultrasound scans of the chest, abdomen and pelvis will be complemented with mammograms.
- Inform whilst ascertaining the community on their awareness levels via cancer quizzes. Prizes (and knowledge) are up for grabs!
Prior registration is required for all who are interested to join us on the day (link). Free screening is available for the first 300 high risk and lower income group participants who register online*. For the rest, screening is available at highly discounted rates.
