A student's guide to the future

About this module
This module asks how emerging technologies are changing what it is to be a student.
- Unit 1 - ‘Histories of the Future’ is all about ‘Futurism’ & how to critically understand the cutting edge of emerging technologies.
What is the world going to look like in 20, 50, 100 years?
- Unit 2 - ‘Futures of Learning’ is all about how the internet and digital media change how we think and process information. How much technology is ‘too much’ for the mind?
- Unit 3 - ‘Futures of Knowledge’ is all about the power-shift from corporations to the crowd, and back again. Who owns knowledge,
and do they exploit those who don’t?
- Unit 4 - ‘Futures of Rights’ is all about how students are increasingly treated like consumers. We also look at big data and privacy. Do you know how much data the University has about you?
- Unit 5 - ‘Futures of Participation’ is all about how we get involved in political discussions, or how we don’t. Students have always been active citizens. Could this be about to change?
- Unit 6 - ‘Futures of Work’ is all about how AI and advanced robotics pose challenges to many of the jobs students expect to be going into. What does the future of work really look like?
Initiated, designed, produced and moderated exclusively by a team of students and recent graduates, the course will hopefully become a unique space for open debate, in which students feel able to challenge current assumptions and propose new ideas about the future of student-hood.
