Global business services (GBS)

What is GBS?

GBS firms refers to firms that leverage global opportunities and technologies by centralising work, governance, business practices into a single location designed to capture additional value for scalability, lower costs, and optimised processes. GBS trends cut across IT, HR, accounting, finance, procurement, legal, engineering research and development, and big data analytics. This emerging trend will fundamentally change the way business organisations operate, which in turn means changing the nature of jobs and creating new jobs that require different skill sets. In short, it impacts you directly as a future graduate.

Did you know?

GBS is one of the focuses in the Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Plan and the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) towards its transformation into a high-income, knowledge-based economy by 2020. At the end of 2016, Malaysia is home to more than 500 GBS firms, employing more than 86,000 people. Every year, 60-65 new firms from different countries of origin add their footprints in this country. This industry has been growing steadily around 10% to 15% every year.
