Medical and Health Insurance

Medical and health insurance is mandatory and must be procured through UNM or EMGS. This applies to all foreign students who are 18 years and above and intend to apply for a student pass in Malaysia.

All new International Student will be covered by Group Hospital & Surgical Policy under TOKIO MARINE INSURANCE MALAYSIA.  Please find attached Group Hospital & Surgical Insurance Policy for further information: TM Policy & Table of Benefits.

***All international students who have been granted a full duration visa ( 2, 3 or more years ) are still required to pay for their medical insurance on a yearly basis despite being granted a full visa. This is mandatory for all international students who are holding a student pass. 

How are you insured?

• UNM will arrange for your insurance coverage if you are applying student pass under the university
  
• For those applying for their student pass directly with EMGS, please also arrange for your insurance coverage with them directly. The University will not be managing your insurance under this circumstances.
• Insurance coverage will begin from the date of your registration on campus.
• An email notification will be sent to all students on how to activate their E-Medical card from the International Student Support Office. 

Insurance Coverage:

Outpatient Treatment

• Choose the nearest Panel Clinic or Panel Hospital
• Proceed to Accidental & Emergency Department - for Hospitals only*
• Provide your passport/ a copy of passport during Registration
• Seek a Treatment from a Medical Officer (Not a Specialist)
• Provide your medical card
• Pay RM25 and the payment balance will be covered by the insurance. *subject to terms & conditions
• Non panel clinics or without a e-medical card, please pay the fee and reimburse later.
• Please take note that Specialist Treatment is not covered under Outpatient treatment eventhough you are referred by a medical officer.
• Always bring along additional cash

Inpatient Treatment/Hospitalisation

• Choose the nearest panel hospital – MiCare/Tokio Marine   
• Provide your E-Medical card & passport or a copy of passport
• Register your name at the hospital for admissions and pay the deposit of RM500 (if needed)
• Hospital will contact the insurance company for further verification.
• Get yourself admitted.

Medical Reimbursement

• if the fees is more than RM250, the doctor report is needed to proceed with reimbursement process.
• Need to submit the original receipts and the Insurance Claim Form the very next working day to the International Student Support office.
• Medical reimbursement or claims  does not cover 100% of your hospital bills and it is subject to terms and conditions.
• Processing fee of RM25 is deductable
