Alumni Dinner in Tanzania

University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) organised an alumni dinner for graduates from Nottingham campuses in Malaysia, China and the United Kingdom. The dinner was held at 305 Karafuu Restaurant, Dar Es Salaam on Friday, 6 March 2020.

The evening was hosted by Professor Andy Chan, Dean of Engineering and supported by Teoh Tze Imm, Assistant Manager of International Office, both from UNM.

According to Professor Andy, “I am glad to have organised this event and even more proud of the good turnout. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the teams from UNM and UoN for organising this. All those present had a great time talking a walk down memory lane and they have also now formed a local chapter.”

This was the first time the University organised a get-together in the region, and it received such a positive response. The alumni felt that the gathering was fun and enjoyable.

Prusela Bhowmick (Finance, Accounting and Management, 2019) expressed her delight at having participated in the gathering. “The event was great. Thank you for holding such a beautiful gathering for us.”Prusela is currently pursuing her ACCA in Tanzania.

Together with Prusela, Federick Haraka, who is a Senior Research Scientist at Ifakara Health Institute, formed an informal local chapter group to remain connected. Federick has volunteered to serve as the main contact for the Tanzanian chapter.

Professor Andy also spoke about future collaborations, engagements and internship opportunities with the group before a photo session and ending the evening with a promise to see everyone again in Dar Es Salaam.
