What this means for the University
Higher Education Providers (HEPs) must ensure that admissions policies and candidate selection processes comply with both University of Nottingham and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements.
There are additional MQA requirements with which the University must comply. For example, the University must be able to convert final grades or averages listed on academic transcripts (typically for Foundation, Diploma, or Degree qualifications) into an equivalent CGPA. Furthermore, HEPs are responsible for managing credit transfer policies that comply with both University and MQA regulations.
Specific limitations apply as follows:
- Faculty of Science and Engineering: A qualification in a related field is generally required for admission to postgraduate programmes.
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences: Consideration may be given to applicants whose previous degree is in a different discipline, provided they possess relevant work experience or have completed prerequisite modules at Level 6 (UK equivalent), and can supply the supporting documents outlined in the application checklist.
Interview requirements:
In addition to the interview requirements set by accreditation bodies, applicants who hold a first-class honors degree in a relevant discipline (UK equivalent) and are applying directly to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program must attend an interview. Furthermore, applicants may be invited to attend an interview if further assessment is needed, such as for the evaluation of work experience.
What this means for you
- You must ensure that you are able to provide the required documents listed in the Checklist for applications.
- Please upload copies of your certificates and transcripts, along with any other supporting documentation. We will be unable to assess your application without these documents.
- If your final grades or overall average are not available on your transcripts for any reason, you will be asked to provide further information. In most instances, you will need to contact your previous institutions to obtain the necessary details. Please ensure that information such as your final average and credit hours is available before submitting your application, as it can take some time for institutions to supply this data. We cannot accept late applications due to missing documentation
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in non-related fields (for postgraduate studies)
- Most Schools or Departments, particularly those within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, will only consider applications from candidates holding prior qualifications in related fields.
- If you are applying to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and do not have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related discipline, the following may apply:
- You must have relevant work experience.
- You may be required to submit course syllabi for specific modules, as further assessments will be conducted to confirm that you have completed prerequisite modules at Level 6 (UK equivalent).
- In some cases, you may be asked to attend an interview if your work experience is unclear or insufficient.
Additional information for International Applicants
During the visa application process, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) may request further documents from international students. Please note that receiving an offer letter does not guarantee the success of your visa application. You must fulfil all requirements for a student visa application.
