Research at the School of Humanities

The School of Humanities is a dynamic research community offering internationally recognised degrees in culture, media, communications, language, literature, and the creative arts. Our esteemed faculty members bring a wealth of cultural and research expertise, fostering an enriching environment that promotes rigorous scholarship and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The School of Humanities has two (2) core research clusters:

  1. English studies (Literature, Linguistics and Creative Writing)
    Including but not limited to:
    • Postcolonial literature: theory and criticism
    • Malaysian Literature in English
    • Multimedia poetry
    • Comparative literature
    • Domestic noir
    • Language, gender and sexuality
    • Discourse analysis
    • Corpus linguistics

 

  1. Culture, Media and Communication (Theories, Policy and Practice)
    Including but not limited to:
    • Non-fiction film
    • Indonesian cinema
    • Transnational Approaches to Asian Studies
    • Participatory governance
    • Participatory media (including social media and mobile media)
    • New Communication Technologies
    • Interculturality
    • Youth identities
    • Performing Arts
