The School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham Malaysia continues to strengthen its industrial engagement and collaboration after being in Malaysia for more than two decades. With Artificial Intelligence (AI) taking a central role in the world and the current job market, leveraging established and new collaborations not only reinforces the school’s strong commitment to being a leader in AI but also contributes to producing work-ready graduates equipped to tackle real-world AI challenges.

Software Engineering Group Project Open Day

The Software Engineering Group Project (SEGP) is a compulsory Year 2 module for all Computer Science undergraduate students. This year-long module groups students randomly at the start of the academic year, where they work closely with an industrial client to solve a real-world problem under the supervision of a Computer Science academic staff member. The open day marks the culmination of this journey, where each group showcases their achievements to invited industry-leading partners, special guests, and the entire University of Nottingham Malaysia community. The annual four-hour event concludes with three top SEGP projects being voted on by a panel of judges comprising academic staff and industrial guests.

Industry Guest Lectures

The school prides itself in ensuring that the knowledge and wisdom shared with our beloved students are of the highest quality and align with the current industry trends. As such, respective module convenors often reach out to established alumni and our strong industrial partners to present guest lectures, highlighting the current trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Software Engineering (to name a few) and its impact on society.

Field trips

Collaborating with our industrial partners, the school frequently organises field trips that aim to highlight the practicality of the theories covered in lectures as well as allowing our students to engage directly with industrial partners on possible job opportunities in this ever-evolving field of Computer Science.

Microsoft Programmes

Through initiatives such as the Microsoft Learn for Educators (MSLE) programme, students gain access to valuable certifications, workshops, and real-world insights from industry professionals. These collaborations not only equip students with in-demand skills but also foster research opportunities by integrating industry trends into academic exploration.

Computer Science TECH Fest

A week-long celebration of technology and innovation, uniting students and tech enthusiasts with industry leaders through a series of impactful talks and activities. This annual flagship event offers students a unique opportunity to learn, network, and engage with tech leaders from prestigious companies such as YTL Communications, Arvato Systems, Ernst & Young, Experian, Deloitte, WHO, Cognizant, and many others.
