All undergraduate students are required to enrol in, complete, and pass the General Studies (MPU) modules before graduating. This is a compulsory requirement under the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555), which applies to all private universities in Malaysia, including UNM.

*Bahasa Kebangsaan A is compulsory for students without a credit in Bahasa Melayu at SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia / Malaysian Certificate of Education).
**All students must complete 30 hours of community service designated by the General Studies Department. This is subject to the conditions set by the department.
