Visiting researcher scheme

Visiting researchers

The School invites applications from researchers and PhD students to spend between three and nine months, in order to work on specific research projects (or their dissertation).

Visiting researchers will be generally expected to present a paper on their research at the school as well as produce one written research paper during their stay.

Researchers are provided with:

  • individual workspace
  • a networked computer
  • printing and copying allowance
  • access to the University library
  • telephone and fax facilities

PhD students will be allocated a member of staff as academic adviser for the duration of their stay.

PhD students must be in at least their second year of doctoral studies, have an EFL level of at least 6.5 IELTS (or equivalent) and provide two references, including one from their primary supervisor, confirming that the applicant is registered for a PhD at their home university.

Tuition and bench fees

PhD students will be eligible for tuition fees charged per rata depending on the time spent at the School. Visiting academics will be charged a ‘bench fee’ for use of the facilities during their stay.

Please direct all enquiries regarding this scheme to the Director of Postgraduate Research, Associate Professor Trevor Parfitt.
