Research at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering is committed to addressing critical global challenges through impactful research. Our vibrant research community fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and cultivates expertise in crucial areas to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. We are actively engaged in cutting-edge research in:

1. Process System Engineering

Our research in Process System Engineering (PSE) focuses on designing, optimising, and controlling complex industrial processes. We strive to enhance efficiency and sustainability across various sectors, including energy, chemical manufacturing, environmental engineering, and waste management. By integrating chemical and systems engineering principles, we leverage advanced mathematical modelling, simulation techniques, and optimisation algorithms to analyse and improve industrial operations. This holistic approach enables us to identify bottlenecks, streamline processes, and propose innovative solutions that increase productivity and minimise waste and resource consumption. Our work contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

4. Environmental Protection

Our environmental protection research investigates and implements strategies to mitigate environmental pollution and promote sustainability. We address critical environmental challenges such as water pollution, air pollution, and waste management. Our research focuses on developing and optimising technologies for wastewater treatment, air pollution control, and waste valorisation. We also investigate the fate and transport of pollutants in the environment and develop strategies to minimise their impact on human health and ecosystems. We aim to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment through innovative research and sustainable solutions.
