The University of Nottingham Malaysia, in collaboration with the World Bank Group Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Finance Hub, proudly presents the 2025 edition of the Nottingham–World Bank Asian Economics Essay Competition. Now in its 12th year, this competition invites ambitious and insightful students from across Asia to address pressing economic challenges in the region through critical thinking, creativity, and well-reasoned analysis.

Essay Topics
Pre-University Category
“Is an ageing population an economic burden to Asia, and what policy reforms are needed to address this demographic shift?”
Undergraduate Category
“To what extent can the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) be achieved in Asia by 2030, and what specific reforms are necessary to accelerate the process?”
Who Can Participate
This competition is open to students across Asia in the following two categories:
- Pre-University/High School Students
- Final-Year Undergraduate Students
Prizes
Each category will be awarded the following:
- First Prize: RM1,000
- Second Prize: RM800
- Third Prize: RM600
