Established in 2016, the School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at the University of Nottingham Malaysia has been a leading centre for research and education in the environmental and sustainability sector.
Our School leverages industry insights from leading sustainability practitioners to shape our educational approach. We offer a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science degree, accredited by the UK-based Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES) and the Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE). We also provide postgraduate programmes for aspiring learners, which are MPhil, MRes, and PhD in Environmental Science.
Our School’s core strength is our innovative curriculum designed to equip our students with unique hands-on experiences, allowing them to practice a range of field techniques. We organise two major residential field courses for Environmental Science undergraduates: the Tropical Environmental Science Field course in the second year of study and the Tropical Ecology course in the third year. Through these modules, our students gain the advantage of studying and interacting with various local communities and their tropical ecosystems, such as Tioman Island. Other undergraduate modules include shorter one-day field courses within the wider Klang Valley region and near our main campus.
UNM also allows our students to take part in additional employability awards, such as the Nottingham Advantage Award (NAA) and the Students' Continuing Personal Development (s-CPD) scheme. NAA includes sustainability-focused modules, such as Sustainability in Action and Climate Action in Malaysia, while s-CPD helps students to document their activities towards their professional development.
