Our graduates contribute to the growing environmental and sustainability needs of society and businesses. Our education at the School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences provides the support needed to enhance positive graduate outcomes, including:

Degree accreditation and External Advisory Board advice

  • Our BSc Environmental Science degree is accredited by the UK-based Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES) and the Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE), which focuses on evaluating evidence and assuring how well our students are prepared for professional practice.
  • Our School benefits from advice from leading sustainability practioners in shaping our educational approach, through our External Advisory Board.

Industry-relevant learning experiences

  • Industry-relevant taught modules in the BSc Environmental Science degree (e.g., Environmental Assessment, Environmental Policy and Law and a new module, "Sustainable Business Practices" with Nottingham University Business School in academic year 2025-2026)
  • Our in-class activities and assessments are tailored to demonstrate experiences required in working environments. A recent audit of our degree has indicated our graduates achieve industry-aligned skills and competencies throughout their module activities.
  • The School invites a wide-range of guest speakers from the sustainability sector in modules and additional seminar events.

Supporting activities and opportunities

  • UNM allows students to take part in additional employability awards such as the Nottingham Advantage Award (NAA) and Students' Continuing Personal Development (s-CPD) scheme. NAA includes sustainability-focused modules (e.g, Sustainability in Action, Climate Action in Malaysia), and s-CPD helps students document their activities towards their professional development.
  • The School and Careers Advisory Service at UNM provides support for internship activities (within and outside UNM), which we recommend in students' semester breaks.
